Performing Arts at Katherine Warington School
At Katherine Warington School, Performing Arts is developed through the discrete subjects of Music, Drama and Dance at Key Stage Three, as well as through an extensive enrichment programme of theatre visits, masterclasses and performances.
At Key Stage Four, we are delighted to offer the BTEC Level 2 Technical Award in Performing Arts and encourage students to specialise in Acting, Musical Theatre and Dance.
This course alongside Drama and Music will lead into our specialist provision of the Level Three BTEC Qualification.
Analyse & Explore
Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of styles and repertoire through practitioners such as Brecht, Frantic Assembly, Christopher Wheeldon and Stephen Schwartz through lessons in Year 9, developing the knowedge and skills introduced to students in years 7 and 8.
Create & Develop
Leading directly from exploration, students are required to develop their own skills in order to be able to perform professional repertoire to a high standard as well as respond effectively to a brief and the creation through composition, choreography and devising of new works.
Share & Evaluate
Students are expected to demonstrate their understanding of theatre styles through a combination of workshop exploration as well as more formal performances of professional repertoire and work that they have worked to create. Students at all times are expected to reflect on their own development of practical and professional skills.
