Arts, Culture and Society Award
Welcome to the information page for the Katherine Warington Arts, Culture and society award.
Developing independent learning skills, the ability to research and to present effectively underpin the work of schools in developing our young people to become successful in the future, in whatever path of work or study that they choose. This, combined with the holistic education that Katherine Warington School offers allows our students to become effective and active citizens of the twenty first century.
What Will I do?
Over the course of the year, students in year nine are exposed to a range of educational experiences including music, drama, art, engineering, the future of the environment and Chinese culture. For the final part of this programme students will either:-
- Create a piece of research on an area they are interested in
- Create an artefact, such as a music, drama, dance or art piece
Students will propose their project and be supported by a supervisor to support them in their work. At the end of the project, they will then present their work to a small group of staff and students, discussing their inspiration and the process involved in creating their work.
At the end of the year, students will receive their award at Pass, Mer
Frequently Asked Questions
How will I be marked?
You will be marked on the quality of the research and / or artefact as well as your presentation skills. These will be graded as fail, pass, merit and distinction. To see the criteria, please click here.
Is the presentation a separate piece of work?
No, it is simply when you present your work, talking about what you set about doing, why it was of interest to you and how you arrived at the final product.
What is the proposal document?
This is your proposal detailing what you intend to work on. This needs to be completed and submitted by May 9th 2025
What can I do my project on?
Your project can be on anything connected with arts, culture and society – this is pretty broad so most things will work, but if in doubt, speak to your tutor or Mr Bullock.
Why are we doing this?
The ability to work independently is a vital skill to be successful, not only this but to be able to effectively research and create work will support your learning as you progress. These are essential skills for everyone and the earlier you begin to develop them, the better for you it will be.
